LaGrange, Georgia- Daveon Parks knew his identity from an early age. He only needed to be called pretty once. Long before his dreams became a reality, this confident, cool, calm, and talented creative knew what his purpose was. This creative has multiple titles under his belt including professional model, creative director, professional stylist, and content creator. In addition to pursuing his dreams, Daveon is a senior at Clark Atlanta University!
Who is Daveon Parks?
“My name is Daveon Parks and I’m from LaGrange, Georgia. I’m a model, creative director, content creator, dancer, and professional stylist. I like to get involved in a variety of things! Besides that, I would say that I’m a very humble person. I take everything with a grain of salt. I know God is not done with me and I know he always has a plan for me. I know there’s more to come, so I just stay humble.”
What made you want to become a model?
“When my mom was younger, she was a model. I remember just sitting down and talking to her about it and she was the one that actually inspired me to go into modeling. I’ve always had confidence but I never really thought about how good I could be as a model. My mom was the one that really pushed me into modeling also. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have known where I could’ve gone. I gave it a shot and it went well! Now I just keep going!”
Was modeling something you’ve always had an interest in?
“Actually no, dance has always been something I’ve been passionate about ever since I was little. I would annoy my brothers when I would just get up and dance around the house. They would always tell me to “Sit down!”. Along with that, I used to flip off the couch, the corner, the bed, etc. I love dancing as a whole. I love all types of dancing styles. When it comes to dancing, I don’t have a limit!”
What inspired you to go into professional styling?
“At first I started styling myself. I would always venture off and try different styles when I was in high school. One of the ones that stand out the most when I think back on it is the preppy style that I did. I used to do the button down with the button at the top undone, the glasses, the pop of bright colors, etc. Everybody used to refer to me as “ the preppy boy” during my sophomore year. As I went into my junior year of high school, that’s when I found my style. I started stepping into my more feminine side in college. This brought out who I was to both the public and myself. Being in the city of Atlanta, you know it’s nothing but fashion. So yeah, I started in high school and I just never gave it up. I also have friends that are designers! One of my favorite designers is Jeremiah from The Jeremiah Collection. At the moment, I’m working with 3 different brands based on how I styled myself. It has opened a lot of doors for me. I’m forever grateful for everything that has come from it.”
In each area of your career, what has been your biggest accomplishment?
“For dance, I haven’t accomplished what I wanted to as far as that yet. As far as modeling goes, I’ve accomplished a lot within this field! One of my biggest accomplishments was walking. When I started walking, it was for me and I didn’t really focus on the statistics when it comes to male modeling. Usually, men are “supposed” to walk in dress shoes or even a boot. I went outside of the box and started walking in heels. Throughout that, I was able to find more of myself! As far as styling, I’ve started my own business. I actually have styled people on Clark Atlanta Uni’s campus. Although I haven’t put my business out there yet, the ones I do style make it known that I was the one who styled them. As far as creative directing goes, I’ve accomplished what I wanted to accomplish within this field. I’ve been working/worked on multiple shows, photoshoots, video shoots, etc! I get calls all the time about people wanting me to be a creative director on different photoshoots, video shoots, runway shows, etc. When it comes to this, I’m booked and busy!”
In each area of your career, who has been the biggest inspiration to you?
“My biggest inspiration when it comes to modeling is Alton Mason. My biggest inspiration when it comes to dancing is Beyonce's choreographer, JaQuel Knight. My biggest inspiration when it comes to styling is Teyana Taylor. And my biggest inspiration when it comes to content creation would be De’arra Taylor.”
In each area of your career, who are some people you would like to work with?
“In terms of styling, I would love to work with Chloe and Halle, Normani, Teyana Taylor, Beyonce, and Kelly Rowland. And in terms of dancing, I would love to work with Doja Cat.”
Over the years, what has taught you valuable lessons?
“Don’t diminish your light for the next person. You shouldn’t listen to people that are going to try and have a negative impact on your life or mindset. What’s for them, is for them. The only person that you should listen to is the man above. Be yourself at all times. F whoever and whatever. You’re going to come into this world by yourself and you’re going to go out by yourself.”
Where can we reach you or just follow you on your journey?
“You can reach me on Instagram at Theeedaveon and Thee_newgeneration (my actual organization). You can also email me at Daveonparks@yahoo.com or Daveonparks@gmail.com.”
“Don’t give up on yourself. No matter how much you get discouraged or feel like you just can’t do this, do not give up on yourself. Everything in the end is eventually going to pay off. Also, be humble about everything. Just as fast as you received it, it can be taken away from you even faster. And keep God in your life. Always keep the faith. God got you!”- Daveon Parks
